Walls

Amsterdam - Walls heeft sinds november 2002 haar deuren voor het publiek geopend. Hiermee is een nieuw concept in de Nederlandse galeriewereld geïntroduceerd. In de grote, hoge ruimte van Walls hangen tientallen kunstwerken boven en naast elkaar, de muren zijn optimaal benut. Door de grote diversiteit aan kunststijlen is er voor elk wat wils. Zo zijn er naast schilderijen, ook tekeningen, foto´s, sculpturen, art-prints en bijvoorbeeld tassen te bezichtigen en te koop. Het nieuwe concept dat Walls introduceert is dat kunstenaars enkele strekkende meters muur kunnen huren om hun werk te exposeren. De kunstenaar heeft zo de vrijheid het werk naar eigen inzicht op te hangen, tevens betrekt het hem/haar sterk bij de expositie en de bezoekers. Walls maakt een selectie uit het aanbod van kunstenaars. Gekeken wordt naar kwaliteit, concept en originaliteit. Walls organiseert zo’n 6 tot 8 tentoonstellingen per jaar met telkens nieuwe kunstenaars. Na afloop van de exposities blijven de kunstwerken voor één jaar op de website te bezichtigen.

Walls, open since November 2002, brings a new concept to the Dutch art world. Dozens of works of art are ranged alongside and above each other in the huge, high-ceilinged hall of the Walls building, making optimum use of the wall areas. The wide range of artistic styles means that there is something for everyone. Paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, art prints and bags are to be viewed and purchased. The new Walls-concept allows artists to rent wall-space by the metre. In this way, they have the freedom to display their paintings in the way that they think best, and it also increases their involvement both in the exhibition and with the visitors. Walls is selective when it comes to choosing the artists, carefully assessing quality, concept and originality. Walls organises between 6 and 8 such exhibitions a year, choosing new artists on each occasion. When the exhibition is finished, the exhibits can be viewed on the company’s website for a whole year.
