Q: How long in advance do you start working on a new color collection?

For Color Collection it begins a little over a year in advance for the creation. For example I am already thinking about summer 2016, the inspiration, the mood, etc. You can’t start too early as you need to address trends and also be super reactive too.

Q: Can you take us through the process of creating new colors?

Creating new colors is a fun and creative journey. There are four big steps: the inspiration, the curation, the brief and the shadematching at the labs.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from? Do you travel a lot?

Yes I do travel a lot, just this month I have been to India, Milan and Prague!   I am super inspired by travels of course, in the traditions of the cultures, the women on the street, the architecture of the places, etc. In addition there are many more points of inspiration - lot from art, latest exhibits, fashion, nature (which give the most interest colors and textures), societal changes, and of course the city in which I live, Paris.

Q: You see nudes a lot this season. But how do you pick the right nude for your skintone?

Nudes is a strong trend and has been for a few seasons. The best way to pick a great nude is to first know the undertone of your skintone.  Are you warm, neutral or cool as your undertone? Just like our True Match foundation categorizes and fine tunes your complexion, that knowledge applies to finding your right nude. For example, if you are warm, with golden or olive undertones, then you find the right eyeshadow or lip color that has the same warmth in it.  A great copper or peachy nude. If you are cool, with rosier undertones, then it is best to find a nude lipcolor with a touch more pink, a bit cooler.

Q. 2015 is the year of pantone color Marsala. Will you work with that color?

In fact shades similar to Marsala already exist in our product range. Especially in our lipstick range of Colour Riche 30 Ans there is a gorgeous shade called Garnet Baron. There are also nuances of this interesting and striking color in our CR Nude eyeshadow palettes. L’Oréal Paris is ahead of the prediction.

Q: We consider you a trendwatcher as well since you already know what colors we can expect to see the next seasons. Can you reveal something?

There will be a return to color after many seasons of nude and bare looks. Lipcolors will go deeper, in the warm side.  A lot of Bordeaux, deep plums, and wine shades. There will be a lot of metallic finishes in eye makeup and nail colors. The rest will be revealed in due time…
